Cheap Hotels in New York

The POD 51 at Times Square (Deals starting from $165)

The POD 51 is among the most popular 3-star hotels in New York. Rooms are clean and feature a modern design.

  • Free WiFi
  • LCD TV
  • Safe
  • Cheapest rooms have shared bathrooms

Hotel 17 near Union Square (Deals starting from $80)

Hotel 17 New York has typical New York type of charm and is in a great location. Only 3 blocks from Union Square, you will find yourself in the middle of all the action at a very reasonable cost. Union Square near 14th Street is a gateway to exploring New York City’s nightlife. East Village is close by and is known for being full of life and featuring a wide array of bars and pubs. The location of the hotel is also a plus for those interested in culture: the Daryl Roth Theatre (originally a bank) has regularly scheduled events.

We were guests at the hotel in 2010 as well as 2012 and can recommend it highly. The rooms are not particularly large, but very clean. The mattresses were comfortable, and the bath and toilet facilities, located in the hallway, were also always clean. A double room runs approximately £62. The hotel staff were also very friendly and accommodating.

Comfort Inn in Midtown West – Hells Kitchen (Deals starting from $115)

Another hotel that has made my list of top affordable hotels is the Comfort Inn in midtown west. It was recently renovated and the interior is therefore brand new. Rooms are bright and of a size that is typical for New York.

YOTEL – Times Square (Deals starting from $105)

YOTEL, at Times Square proves that a boutique hotel with good views does not necessarily have to be expensive! Rooms are modern and have a Scandinavian feel to their design. The style and room fittings bring a certain sense of quiet in the room which is a great feeling while looking out over the bustling city. YOTEL is one of the most popular hotels in New York not just because of its rooftop bar and its spectacular rates but because it is a genuinely great hotel for the price!

Hotel 31 in midtown (Deals starting from $105)

The Hotel 31 is located on 31st Street between Lexington and Park Avenue and is the sister property of the Hotel 17. The Les Halles restaurant is only 2 blocks away, and there are numerous other cafes, restaurants, and bars close by. Overall our experience here was great and we would be happy to stay here once more! The Empire State Building, Times Square, Herald Square and Madison Square Park are all within walking distance meaning the hotel is a perfect base to explore New York from!

Given New York prices, the hotel is a bargain: rates for double occupancy start as low as £82 (not including breakfast). Room decor is kept simple, but since you are generally out all day and night exploring and spend time in your room only to catch some sleep, this is not a problem. There are several rooms with a private bathroom while others share a bathroom located on the same floor. These are cleaned several times a day and we have never had a bad experience.

While the property won’t win any design awards, its affordable rates, great location, and cleanliness make Hotel 31 highly recommended!

Wyndham Garden Long Island City – Manhattan View Queens (Deals starting from $125)

The Wyndham Garden Long Island City Manhattan View, is located in Queens near the Queensboro Bridge and the popular Z NYC Hotel. There is a subway station nearby, and the hotel is very well connected to the rest of the city. You can get to Times Square in just 10 minutes!

As you can tell from the rating, the Wyndham Garden Long Island City gets a lot of bookings and is also highly recommended!
