It is hard to say which is the best New York Pass as they each serve a different purpose. NYC sightseeing is made easy by all three of them, however which one is best for you, depends on how many attractions you wish to see a day, how many days you wish to visit attractions in NYC for, and whether these days will be consecutive.NYC Pass Comparison

  • We recommend the NYC Sightseeing Pass for: trips where you want to see as much as possible, as well as make use of the Hop-On Hop-Off buses daily.
  • We recommend the NYC Sightseeing FLEX Pass for: trips where you are looking to visit attractions on non-consecutive days.
  • We recommend the Explorer Pass for: trips where you want to visit a certain number of NYC attractions, potentially on non-consecutive days.
  • We recommend the New York Pass for: trips where you want to buy a day pass (for up to 10 days) that allows you to view as many NYC attractions as you like. This pass is also great if you don’t want to commit to which attractions you want to see beforehand. This pass is also ideal for lovers of museums, as most of these have a fast track option!
  • We recommend the CityPASS for: short trips where you want to see only the top NYC attractions.
  • We recommend the NYC Freestyle Pass for: trips where you know exactly which attractions you want to see and potentially visit these over nonconsecutive days over a period of 14 days, as well as make use of a free 3-day Hop-On Hop-Off bus tour.

Each of the three passes has advantages depending on its particular focus. This makes it difficult to describe one of the passes as better than the other. The amount of money you save depends on which tours and attractions you choose and in the case of the New York Pass, how many attractions you visit per day.

The general rule of thumb: the higher the regular ticket price for an attraction, the more money you will save if that attraction is included in the sightseeing pass. The more days/attractions you have the pass for, the more money you will save on attraction tickets.

Is the New York Sightseeing Pass worth it?

The New York Sightseeing Pass can save you a ton of money, provides you with a lot of flexibility in terms of attractions, as well as removes a lot of the hassle from your NYC Sightseeing trip. As the pass with the best value for money of the lot, it is definitely worth it if you are planning on up to 10 days of consecutive NYC sightseeing. In order to get the most out of your sightseeing pass, you should plan on visiting around 2-3 NYC attractions with your pass each day. The longer you purchase the pass for the fewer attractions you need to visit per day to make sure the pass is worth the money. If you purchase a Sightseeing Pass for 6 days for example (~$254), you get unlimited sightseeing for ~$42 per day, which is below the price of many attractions tickets purchased on their own. This means that you only need to visit one attraction a day for 7 days to make this pass worth it! This is what makes this the best value for money pass of the bunch. You also receive a free $40 coupon with every purchase of a NYC Sightseeing Pass, meaning that you can purchase a ticket to the Empire State Building (or any other attraction/tour) on top of the included attractions in your pass.

How to use the NYC Sightseeing Pass?

The NYC Sightseeing Pass is a piece of cake to use! After purchasing the pass online, you will receive an email with your pass. You can from here print the pass or save it to your phone. Once you are in NYC and ready to go sightseeing with your New York tourist pass, choose which attraction you want to visit on the go and head towards it with your Sightseeing Pass in hand. Choose as you go, simply show your Pass at each attraction for free admission; easy! If you want to book one of the included walking or bike tours, check the specific attraction here for instructions.

When a statement with explorer pass says skip the lines does that mean at each attraction there is a line for people with passes and those in a line to get an individual ticket for that ONE attraction? THANKS PLEASE HURRY WITH ANSWER IF Possible!!

Moritz

Hi Gary! There are several attractions which have fast track lines. You can check the full list here: http://loving-newyork.com/uk/new-york-explorer-pass/

Angela

Hi, On this website it says the New York Sightseeing FlexPass is valid for 30 days after the first use, however in the Guide Book it says you have 7 days to enjoy all of the attractions for the Flex Pass. Could you please clarify this before I purchase.
Thanks for your help.

Moritz

Hi Angela!

The New York Sightseeing Flex Pass is valid for 30 days after you first use it. The guidebooks are sadly not updated as often as they should be, meaning that some of the information may be outdated.

Hope this helps! – Mo

Jim Robinson

Hi. Is there a pass that includes the Beast Speedboat Ride, Empire State Building, Top of the Rock, and Madame Tussaud’s?

Moritz

Hi Jim! These are some of the most popular attractions and are included in every pass except the CityPASS. Check out the table above for more details! If these are the attractions you are most interested in I would recommend checking out the Explorer Pass and Sightseeing Pass in more detail.

Hope this helps 🙂

Jeroen

Hi, When I select 9 attractions and get advise to buy the flexpass with 6 attractions, why isn’t it adviced to buy 10 attractions Flexpass?
With Flexpass for 6 attractions I still have to buy 3 sepatate and then It’s not cheaper comparing it with an 10 attraction Flex pass.
Thanks for your answer.

Maureen Steinert

Hi Jereon,

would you mind letting us know which 9 attractions you are interested in so that we can have a look? My guess is that one or more selected sights are not included in the pass. Feel free to contact me directly → maureen@lovingnewyork.de.

Have a great Tuesday,
Maureen

When buying the “NYC Sightseeing FLEX Pass” – do we need to select the desired attractions beforehead or simply arrive to site and exploit an attraction upon entrance?

Also, does it shorten the lines for entrance (or any other pass, e.g., for one trade center observatory)?

Maureen Steinert

Hi Sam,

you don’t need to select your attraction beforehand, you can decide as you go! The only thing that matters is that you don’t exceed the total number of attractions. Simply head to an attraction, present your pass and you’ll get a ticket.
Unfortunately, there are not too many fast lanes included in the passes. They rather focus on price & flexibility. If you wish to have priority access or similar, we’d suggest you purchase tickets separately. Otherwise just make sure you show up early 🙂

Have a wonderful time in New York and let us know if you have any other questions!
Maureen
