The Smorgasburg Food Market in Williamsburg is one of the trendiest open air food markets in New York City. During the warmer months of the year, it is a great place for people to meet, eat, drink, and enjoy the views of the Manhattan skyline from the East River waterfront.
Smorgasburg is a take-off of the Swedish word, smörgåsbord, which refers to the traditional broad array of foods and prepared dishes. At the market, numerous vendors offer the best delicacies of the surrounding areas.

You won’t find too many tourists at the market, and if you do, they are absorbed by the crowds of locals that come here regularly. So the Smorgasburg Food Market presents an excellent opportunity to mingle with New Yorkers, don’t you think? Dive into the crowds, stroll from one vendor to the next, and enjoy the wonderful food while sitting on the lawn and gazing onto the city skyline.
The selection is enormous: meats, fish, bread, ice cream, and sweets – as well as creative concoctions in the drinks department. Everything is freshly prepared and as varied as New York itself. Up to 100 different vendors sell their delicacies on the food market. The Market was created due to the increasing demand for food selections at the Brooklyn Flea Market. Smorgasburg is thus a collaborative project of the Brooklyn Flea Market and the New York Greenmarket.
