All of Our Favorite Toy Stores in NYC

New York is filled with so many shopping opportunities that you can literally find everything and anything your heart desires. It’s the same for kids as well and that’s where toy stores in NYC come in.

From small boutique toy stores all the way to the biggest toy store in America, NYC has it all and these are our favorite ones below.

Kidding Around

This independent store was acknowledged by New York Magazine. This toy store in NYC is a favorite with parents and teachers alike. The store is very child-friendly. They carry a wide range of European brands and wooden toys which are hard to come by. Shoppers can enjoy an interactive train table as well. It’s a great place for your little one that encourages them to play and shop at the same time. If you’re shopping in New York for your kids, this is a great place to start.

LEGO Flagship Store NYC

Lego store

You can’t have a toy store list without The LEGO store. Actually, there are two in Manhattan. The Flagship Store is located at the Rockefeller Center and there’s another store in Flatiron. Both are perfect for kids and families. Kids are encouraged to play and have the time of their lives here. You’ll find hundreds of lego sets and hard-to-find items. The store is very hands-on, a great experience and probably one of the best things to do in NYC with kids.

Boomerang Toys

Boomerang Toys is a family-owned toy store in NYC. It’s located in Tribeca as well where a lot of families currently reside. Their best-seller is an item called Magna-Tiles and their most expensive item is the Xootr, which is ironically for adults.

CAMP Store

This is more of a family experience store than a children’s store. It might also be the most fun store for kids. It’s set-up like a regular kids store with products laying around. However, there’s more to it. There is this “secret” door that leads you into an interactive area. This space usually changes themes each season so there’s always a reason to go back. For example, kids can create their own songs using a switchboard, there’s a slide that leads to a dancefloor filled with lights and much more! There are numerous locations in the city with one in City Point in Downtown Brooklyn,  Hudson Yards and one near Union Square.

Dinosaur Hill

If you’re looking for a classic toy store in the East Village then Dinosaur Hill is the place to go. It’s not your typical store for kids since they sell less commercialized products. However, their curated items are unique and range from hand-made dolls, wooden toys to education science kits. Also, they offer free gift-wrapping as well so it’s perfect for birthdays and the holiday season.

Mary Arnold Toys

This Upper East Side gem is your classic mom and pop toy store. Even though it’s independent, it keeps up with the trends as well as vintage, nostalgic pieces. If your child is into Legos or toys from the 60s, then make sure to check out this shopping experience in NYC. It’s also considered the oldest toy store in NYC after FAO Schwarz.

FAO Schwarz

FAO Schwarz in NYC

This is the mecca of toy stores, not just in NYC, but in all of America. FAO Schwarz NYC has been around since 1870, closed down for a few years in the middle of the 2010s and opened back up in the late 2010s in Rockefeller Center. Kids and families love it here and have appeared in many movies making it a go-to toy store in NYC. It features the infamous clock and the giant piano where children can play. It’s always busy during the holiday season and is definitely worthwhile.
