If you want to be part of an exciting sporting event and experience the “Mecca of Basketball” then head to a New York Knicks basketball game at Madison Square Garden. In this Knicks guide, I will show you everything you need to know about this historical organization as well as getting your New York Knicks tickets.
New York Knicks Schedule
Attending a basketball game is one of the best things to do in Manhattan. The Knicks are one of the most well-known basketball teams in the National Basketball Association (NBA) so don’t miss them when you are in New York. Basketball is one of the four major sports in the US and is firmly embedded in the DNA of the nation. You will meet many Knicks fans if you have the chance to watch a game. You’ll gain an understanding of the attraction of this sport. NYC breeds ballers and for a lot of people, it’s a way of life. The basketball season begins in October. The playoffs begin in April and run into June. Let’s hope the Knicks will make it to the Finals.
Professional Sports and the Coronavirus 2020
The pandemic sweeping the world has taken everyone by surprise. The virus that causes COVID-19 has stopped large gatherings which includes major events such as sports. The NBA initially decided to postpone the 2019-2020 season. The postponement is still in effect and the rest of the season is in jeopardy. The NBA draft is also supposed to be held in June, but that looks like it will be either pushed back or canceled as well.
The postponement of the season started when Rudy Golbert of the Utah Jazz became the first player in the NBA to test positive for COVID-19 and his teammate, Donovan Mitchell also tested positive a couple of days later. As days went by, a few more players throughout the league tested positive, even though the majority of them were asymptomatic.
New York Knicks Tickets & Best Seats
Good tickets for the New York Knicks start at $50 – but can go quickly to $10,000. But spending that much money is not necessary! I recommend the seats located in the 200’s sections. Everything you need to know about buying tickets, delivery, and current promotions can be found here. Being in Madison Square Garden is an experience itself.
On the seating chart, you will see the best seats colored red. Seats in the 200’s sections give you a central view of all the action. Prices range between $50 and $120. Tickets are definitely cheaper online than at the stadium. You can move up closer and practically participate in the game. Court-side seats let you experience every pass and every drop of sweat. But you’ll pay for that privilege. Two tickets in the front row for NBA finals in June 2014 cost approx. $23,430. Yikes! However, you could possibly sit next to celebrities. Even the seats high up run approx. $950 during the playoffs. In the last rows, 400’s sections, you won’t be able to see much, but you will be able to follow the action and be part of the event.
About Madison Square Garden
The New York Knicks play at Madison Square Garden which is centrally located and this accessible from everywhere! The stadium in midtown is located between 7th and 8th Avenue and 31st to 33rd Street. Either walk over to the stadium or take subway lines 1 2 3 to Penn Station/34th. Since Madison Square Garden is a multi-functional area used for concerts, ice hockey, and basketball, the seating chart changes for every event. During Knicks games – you can cheer on the team with 19,811 other fans – the 19,812th fan will be you!
When should you arrive at the stadium?
To fully enjoy the atmosphere of the games, you should be sure not to arrive at the stadium too late. I recommend getting there approx. 1 1/2 hours before tip-off (start of the game). This will allow you to fully appreciate the stadium and atmosphere as more spectators fill into the stadium. You’ll also get to watch the players warm-up, and should help you avoid the long wait lines to get into the arena! Use the time to tour the other levels of the stadium, chat with fans, or just enjoy being there! Most importantly, enjoy the aura of Madison Square Garden. The stadium is iconic worldwide and people dream of just being there so don’t take this experience for granted.
