The Lunt-Fontanne Theatre opened in 1910 under the name Globe Theatre, in reference to the famous Globe Theatre in London during that time. Over time, it was not only used for Broadway shows but also as a movie theater. When it changed ownership in 1958, it also got its new name, which is made up of Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne.

If you go to see a show at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on Broadway, you will be amazed by the layout and design; ornate walls and ceilings and relaxed colors create a very special flair.

Compared to other theaters in New York built around the same time, you’ll have quite a bit of space between rows. The 1,505 seats are divided between the Orchestra, Front Mezzanine, and Rear Mezzanine sections.

Where Are the Best Seats at Lunt-Fontanne Theatre Located?

Due to its particular design, in our experience, the seats in the Orchestra section and the first two rows in the Front Mezzanine are the best. We cannot recommend the Rear Mezzanine because there is a high probability of not seeing some areas of the stage.

The Broadway show Sweeney Todd will be at the beautiful Lunt-Fontanne Theatre beginning in February 2023. This will be the first time you can experience the play in its original production since 1980. With Tony- and Grammy-nominated Josh Groban as Sweeney Todd and Tony winner Annaleigh Ashford as Mrs. Lovett, you can expect a top-notch cast that will make this musical thriller a very special experience.
