LUMAS is a contemporary art and photography gallery that features work from artists around the globe. Many guests enjoy LUMAS because they feature works from upcoming and established artists, so they feature a diverse collection of art, which is evident the moment you step through the door or visit their website.

Unlike some galleries, LUMAS aims to price and position their works in ways that are more accessible to collectors just starting out and definitely lean toward a style that can be described as a modern aesthetic. When visiting LUMAS’ Soho location, each work is meticulously displayed using acrylic mounts and museum-quality paper for printing, so even without a frame, they still look great in many environments.

This is definitely a noteworthy art gallery and a must-visit because it’s fun to walk through, as rather than sticking with the industry-standard white wall color scheme, they opted for more styled scenes to display art. And perhaps the best part is that you can see the size of the art in person, which allows you to see it just the way the artist and gallery intended.

Upcoming and Past Exhibits

  • no current exhibition

In the past, LUMAS has housed exhibits by artists such as Luc Dratwa. He’s known for using famed buildings like the Empire State Building to create gorgeous imagery. He captures these photos using the same perspective someone would have if they were looking out the window with the room in the image’s frame. And when you’re seeing this in its original 70-inch size, it really allows you to see it out that same window. Current exhibits include Imagination by Mr. Pinkbrush, From Earth to the Universe by Babak Tafreshi, and Kate by Andre Monet. And don’t forget to check out Whitewall on the lower level, which is their exclusive print shop where you can chat with a rep or see the types of printing they offer.

Where is the LUMAS Art Gallery located?

You can find this art gallery in the heart of the Soho (one of my favorite neighborhoods in the city). The address of LUMAS is 474 W Broadway (between West Broadway and Thompson Street)

What can you do after visiting LUMAS Art?

If you want to visit more art galleries, I recommend the Krause Gallery, the Marc Straus Gallery or the Foley Gallery. If not, you can go to one of the many great bars on the Lower East Side. Two of my favorites are The Back Room and Fools Gold NYC, both just three blocks away. And again, just one block away is the famous Katz’s Delicatessen.
