The Hyatt House Jersey City

Staying in New Jersey is becoming more and more appealing to many New York visitors due to the attractive price differences. If you’re looking for a modern hotel with reasonable prices and a traveling distance from New York City, then the Hyatt House Jersey City Hotel is for you. Jersey City is located across the Hudson River just opposite the One World Trade Center. The city has many restaurants, and bars and arguably has one of the best views of the Manhattan skyline.

The Hyatt House Jersey City opened in November 2017, this hotel is located just off the PATH station, Exchange Place in Jersey City. It’s about 5 minutes from Manhattan’s Path Train ($ 2.90 each way) and offers amazing views of the Manhattan Skyline. The hotel has its own rooftop bar, guest rooms with kitchens, free WiFi, and a fitness center. The Hyatt House team can provide you with certain utilities that you can borrow. This service called the “Borrows” service is included in your stay for free.

Hyatt House Jersey City: Lots of History & Hidden Treasures

Jersey City’s Hyatt House is housed in the former 100-year-old, First National Bank of Jersey City. The original entrance to the building has not been altered. Today you can see that the largest bank in Jersey City at the time ran its business here. You can still see the large quaint safes, imposing bronze gates, fine marble floors, and the basement filled with history. Shortly after the building was bought for conversion into the Hyatt House, Hurricane Sandy swept through the city and left the lower three floors underwater for months.

During our tour, we were told that much emphasis was placed on preserving the building and so many treasures were fixed up rather than exchanged for something new. The flooding by Hurricane Sandy cost a lot of money and time, so plans, such as a wine bar – or a spa section on the lower floors have not yet been implemented. The focus was initially on the completion of the hotel with 87 rooms, 143 suites, 25 one-bedroom apartments, and the associated rooftop bar. The bar “The Roof Top & Terrace” offers two-story views of Lower Manhattan, Midtown, and the Statue of Liberty.

More Bang for Your Buck

The spacious rooms are specifically designed for longer stays, business guests, and families. The smallest room in the Hyatt House, “Den”,  is superior to other hotels. A small kitchen, coffee machine, dishwasher, fridge, and food delivery service are part of the service. What we found particularly great was the so-called “Borrows Menu”. Here you can borrow things like “Beats by Dr. Dre” headphones, power adapters, iPhone charging cables, hairdryers, yoga mats, blenders, umbrellas, laundry baskets, and much more for free. The rooms are very new and very clean.

Some of the rooms have amazing views of the Manhattan skyline. The Hyatt House Jersey City offers a breakfast buffet equipped with an omelet station, fresh fruit, juices, and delicious coffee. It’s the perfect way to start the day which consists of sightseeing in New York City.
