The theater opened in 1918 as the Plymouth Theatre and is one of several buildings on Broadway designed by architect Herbert Krapp (along with the Broadhurst Theatre, the Neil Simon Theatre, the Walter Kerr Theatre, the Richard Rodgers Theatre, and the Imperial Theatre). It is owned by the Shubert Organization, which operates five well-known theater buildings in New York. Its longtime chairman, who served 36 years at the helm, was Gerald Schoenfeld. Posthumously, it was renamed as a token of appreciation.

At the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre, you can expect an atmosphere typical of theaters from that era; inside, it’s ornate, very well-mounted, and rather cozy because the chairs and rows were tightly planned.

Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre Seating Plan

The Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre’s seating plan is rather special, because in addition to the classical Orchestra, there is a four-section Mezzanine and a Balcony section, also divided into four sections. There is a total of 1,080 seats, making it one of the smaller theaters on Broadway.

Where Are the Best Seats at Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre Located?

Regarding the best seats to watch Come from Away on Broadway, you can sit anywhere and have a great view! The theater is tiny compared to other Broadway venues. We bought tickets for seats pretty far back that didn’t obstruct the view at all, thanks to the small size of the theater. We still would recommend sitting as close to the center as possible.
