Best views in Central Park

The Belvedere Castle at Central Park has been around since 1869. It is the creation of one of the co-designers of Central Park – Calvert Vaux. While Belvedere castle does not serve a real purpose, its two large balconies offer great views of Turtle Pond (which actually does feature real turtles) and The Great Lawn, the wonderful green expanse of Central Park just to the north.

If you are looking for a spot where you can capture the expansiveness of Central Park with your camera – you’ve come to the right place. The name is most appropriate: “Belvedere” means “beautiful view” in Italian. Belvedere Castle is also a special and popular spot for marriage proposals.

Belvedere Castle is easy to get to: it is located right in the center of Central Park on the 79th Street Transverse.
